The Glorious Decline

Sic transit Gloria mundi- Thus passes the glory of the world.

New paintings by Fremantle based artist, Jo Darbyshire. Jo has an interest in the materiality of painting, and these new works explore the transitory nature of life, of layers of history, the beauty of life lived, faded and grown over.

The book covers in the exhibition were sourced from the skip-bin from the back of the State Library of WA and the series The Death of History reflects her interest in working with old books and makes a comment on the current fashion for State Institutions to quietly dispose of many hard cover books.
